The M102 engine family was a straight-4 gasoline automobile engine from Mercedes-Benz in the 1980s and early 1990s. It is a relatively oversquare engine with a large bore and short stroke. Compare to the M115 engine which was used during the same time frame.

Used in the W201 190E 1.8 from 1990 onwards, as well as the limited edition W201 180E model only sold in Australia from 1991 to 1993. Cubic capacity: 1797cc Power: 82kW Torque: 154Nm
Applications:
The M102.920 was a 2.0 L (1997 cc) engine with an 89 mm bore and 80.25 mm stroke. Power output was 109 hp (81 kW).

Application
A later multi-point fuel-injected variation of the M102.921 that was introduced in 1987, with a power output of about 122 bhp. An "E" was added to the model of the vehicle (standing for "einspritzung", the German word for fuel injection).
Applications:
2.0 litre version with KE-Jetronic fuel injection.
KE-Jetronic (1985-1993) : Electronically controlled mechanical fuel injection. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) may be either analog or digital, and the system may or may not have closed-loop lambda control. Commonly known as 'CIS-E' in the USA. The later KE3 (CIS-E III) variant features knock sensing capabilities.

The M102.980 was a 2.3 L (2299 cc) version with a 95.5 mm bore and the same 80.25 mm stroke. Power output was 136 hp (100 kW). Engine weight was 118 kg. Used K-jetronic fuel injection.

The M102.981 was a 2.3 L (2299 cc) version with a 95.5 mm bore and the same 80.25 mm stroke. Power output was 125 hp (92 kW).

The same prototype as the M102.981 version, except for the increased amount of horsepower and torque. Much resemblant to the M102.980 version, which was modified slightly with a newer jetronic system from BOSCH.

Applications:
Cosworth developed an M102 2.3-litre variant with a 16-valve cylinder head for use in the 190E 2.3-16. The 2.5-litre engine in the later 190E 2.5-16 was based on this same engine.
